Jack Nicklaus II
Holes 1 - 9
Jack Nicklaus II
One of the best designers of the word has chosen for Arzaga Golf an american-style layout that will make all golfers' hearts beat faster.
Anyway, the strategically placed bunkers require a careful game that entertains and excites even the most experienced golfer.
Hole 1
A beautiful par 4 that takes you away from the clubhouse. A slight dogleg left requires an accurate tee shot onto the right hand side of the fairway, which will make your approach shot to the green easier, whatever the flag placement. Watch out for the bunkers, though, either side of the fairway. Your approach shot should keep to the right, to avoid the two bunkers guarding the left of the green.
Hole 2
A downhill par 3 that requires an evalutation of the distance, usually underestimated if compared to reality. Staying short on the left hand side means entering a deep bunker; in this case the attack to the hole will be much more difficult. It is also better to avoid the ball going beyond the green, as it could bounce away on the steep descent in that area. When in doubt, play slightly short and on the right hand side.
Hole 3
A long par 5 where your tee shot needs to head down the right hand side of the fairway to avoid the unker on the left and make your second shot a good deal easier. The green is well guarded by three bunkers and, depending on the flag placement, you will need to work out the flight of the ball and how far it will roll once it hits the green.
Hole 4
A pretty long par 4; it's best if you place the tee shot in the middle of the fairway so as to avoid the bunkers on both sides. Longer hitters aiming to reach the green in two will have ot be very accurate, beacuse the green is two-tiered, and guarded by two bunkers on the left.
Hole 5
The tee is set high on this par 4 above a fairway guarded by a few bunkers on the right. The green, positioned slightly to the right of the fairway, is on two levels. Your second shot will therefore have to be very accurat, so you can stop the ball on the green on the tier nearest the pin.
Hole 6
The high-lipped bunker on the right of the fairway and the water hazard on the left make accuracy off the tee a must on this splendid par 4. The approach shot needs to be played with care to avoid the three big bunkers guarding the green.
Hole 7
A short par 3, but made tricky by the water all the way along the left, a large bunker at the back of the green and a particularly undulating putting surface. To avoid risks, whatever the circumstances, aim your tee shot towards the right hand side of the green.
Hole 8
A scenic uphill par 5 with a slight dogleg to the right. Your tee shot should be played slightly left, as otherwise you might find the woods on the right are in the way of your second. Again, try to keep left for your uphill approach shot to avoid the deep bunkers guarding the right hand side of the green.
Hole 9
A spectacular par 4 with great views towards the clubhouse. Take care when playing your tee shot to avoid the large bunker on the left of the fairway. Your approach to the green also needs to be well calculated, as it is surrounded by a series of bunkers. When the flag is placed back right, the approach shot is even tougher.
